Imperial Cat scratchers are made in the USA of 100% recycled cardboard.
They are eco-friendly and are loved by cats.
These are not your ordinary cardboard cat scratcher. These are the unique way to offer your cat a special place scratch, rub and sleep on.
Although you can’t fight instinct, you CAN fight damage to your furnishings, and Imperial Cat Scratch ‘n Shapes make it easy!
The honeycomb texture of a Scratch ‘n Shape mimics the feel of natural tree bark, so cats will instinctively choose to sink their claws in for some serious shredding – or in cat terms, “mark their territory.” And the natural texture – unlike carpeted posts – is distinct from other textures in your home, making it easier to train your cat NOT to scratch your furnishings.
Each large scratcher comes with a bag of certified organic catnip too.
You will find many shapes from the Purr-fect Stretch, Large sofa, dolphin, whale and turtle combo scratcher.
The Vogue scratcher is brand new and has become a favorite for those of you with more than one cat.
It is 2 scratchers in one.
Mickey's Pet Supplies ships for free on your $75 order.
You will find great cat wands, natural cat toys and more.

Health Benefits of owning a pet
5 Ways Pets Can Improve Your Health
Repost of original article By Jeanie Lerche Davis

WebMD Feature
Reviewed by Louise Chang, MD
A pet is certainly a great friend. After a difficult day, pet owners quite literally feel the love.
In fact, for nearly 25 years, research has shown that living with pets provides certain health benefits. Pets help lower blood pressure and lessen anxiety. They boost our immunity. They can even help you get dates.
Allergy Fighters
"The old thinking was that if your family had a pet, the children were more likely to become allergic to the pet. And if you came from an allergy-prone family, pets should be avoided," says researcher James E. Gern, MD, a pediatrician at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
However, a growing number of studies have suggested that kids growing up in a home with "furred animals" -- whether it's a pet cat or dog, or on a farm and exposed to large animals -- will have less risk of allergies and asthma, he tells WebMD.
In his recent study, Gern analyzed the blood of babies immediately after birth and one year later. He was looking for evidence of an allergic reaction, immunity changes, and for reactions to bacteria in the environment.
If a dog lived in the home, infants were less likely to show evidence of pet allergies -- 19% vs. 33%. They also were less likely to have eczema, a common allergy skin condition that causes red patches and itching. In addition, they had higher levels of some immune system chemicals -- a sign of stronger immune system activation.
"Dogs are dirty animals, and this suggests that babies who have greater exposure to dirt and allergens have a stronger immune system," Gern says.
Date Magnets
Dogs are great for making love connections. Forget Internet matchmaking -- a dog is a natural conversation starter.
This especially helps ease people out of social isolation or shyness, Nadine Kaslow, PhD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Emory University in Atlanta, tells WebMD.
"People ask about breed, they watch the dog's tricks," Kaslow says. "Sometimes the conversation stays at the 'dog level,' sometimes it becomes a real social interchange."
Dogs for the Aged
"Studies have shown that Alzheimer's patients have fewer anxious outbursts if there is an animal in the home," says Lynette Hart, PhD, associate professor at the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
"Their caregivers also feel less burdened when there is a pet, particularly if it is a cat, which generally requires less care than a dog," says Hart.
Walking a dog or just caring for a pet -- for elderly people who are able -- can provide exercise and companionship. One insurance company, Midland Life Insurance Company of Columbus, Ohio, asks clients over age 75 if they have a pet as part of their medical screening -- which often helps tip the scales in their favor.
Good for Mind and Soul
Pet owners with AIDS are far less likely to suffer from depression than those without pets. "The benefit is especially pronounced when people are strongly attached to their pets," says researcher Judith Siegel, PhD.
In one study, stockbrokers with high blood pressure who adopted a cat or dog had lower blood pressure readings in stressful situations than did people without pets.
People in stress mode get into a "state of dis-ease," in which harmful chemicals like cortisol and norepinephrine can negatively affect the immune system, says Blair Justice, PhD, a psychology professor at the University of Texas School of Public Health and author of Who Gets Sick: How Beliefs, Moods, and Thoughts Affect Your Health.
Studies show a link between these chemicals and plaque buildup in arteries, the red flag for heart disease, says Justice.
Like any enjoyable activity, playing with a dog can elevate levels of serotonin and dopamine -- nerve transmitters that are known to have pleasurable and calming properties, he tells WebMD.
"People take drugs like heroin and cocaine to raise serotonin and dopamine, but the healthy way to do it is to pet your dog, or hug your spouse, watch sunsets, or get around something beautiful in nature," says Justice, who recently hiked the Colorado Rockies with his wife and two dogs.
Good for the Heart
Heart attack patients who have pets survive longer than those without, according to several studies. Male pet owners have less sign of heart disease -- lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels -- than non-owners, researchers say. Cats and counters- How to keep them off
Repost of article by Gary Bogue

Cats vs. counters
On Friday I wrote about how to keep cats off the kitchen counters. Today, some of you have responded with your own ideas:
I resolved that problem by leaving strips, piles and balls of crinkly-sounding aluminum foil in all the spots where the cats would land when they jumped up on the counter. Cats, at least MY cats, hate crinkly-sounding aluminum foil.
Only had to leave the foil lying around for a couple of days and they stopped jumping on the counters. I keep it stashed in the hall closet, in case one of them starts feeling adventurous.
Here is a trick to make cats think twice about jumping on counter tops or furniture. Carefully set mousetraps upside-down on the forbidden surface. When the cat jumps up, the trap is harmlessly sprung. It leaves an impression on the flustered feline. (Zac in Alameda) (Once you set the upside-down traps on top of the counter, lay sheets of paper over the tops of the traps. It makes a lot more noise and also makes sure nobody's toes get caught in the bouncing traps. /Gary)
I kept a spray bottle full of water handy and spritzed our kitten with it whenever he got up on the counters. He had gotten to the point where he'd jump off as soon as he saw the bottle, and eventually gave up (at least when I was home), but now he is returning to his old ways, so the bottle is out again. (Joyce, San Ramon)
My method to stop my precious Siamese from jumping on my counter, newly refinished ebony piano and suede chair, and scratching on my office chair was to cover the surface with plastic bags. I put a plastic bag over the back of the office chair and used plastic wrap to cover the area on the piano and counter where she jumped up and
on the back of the suede chair where she scratched. She tried the area out once and never tried again. I don't know why it worked and I don't know where I got the idea but it worked for me. It looks pretty stupid but I only had to keep the plastic up for a short time. Worth a try. Good luck. (Paula L., cyberspace)

Iams canned cat food recalled
Iams voluntarily recalls canned cat food because of essential vitamin- Thiamin- deficiency.
The company that makes a popular brand of pet foods is voluntarily recalling one brand because it doesn't contain an essential vitamin.
Proctor & Gamble said this week that Iams ProActive Health canned cat and kitten food contains insufficient levels of thiamine, or Vitamin B1. The recall includes all varieties of 3 and 5-ounce cans with expiration dates from September 2011 to June 2012 on the bottom of the cans.
No other Iams products are affected by the recall.
Cats that have eaten the canned Iams food could be at a higher risk of thiamine deficiency, but the condition is typically reversible, according to a statement from P&G. Early signs of thiamine deficiency may include loss of appetite, salivation, vomiting and weight loss. In advanced cases, signs may include downward curving of the neck, falling, circling and seizures.
Those who have purchased the canned cat food should discard it and contact P&G for a refund by calling 877-340-8826.

Dying, dead marine wildlife paint dark, morbid picture of Gulf Coast following oil spill

We at Mickey's Pet Supplies believe that BP should face criminal charges for the oil spill disaster. The pictures of the dying marine wildlife sure paints a grim reckoning of what has happened.
Please support the effort and buy DAWN dish soap. For every bottle you purchase, $1 goes toward the effort to clean and save these animals. You can join the cause by going to: http://www.facebook.com/dawnsaveswildlife?gclid=CMvMrcrwhqICFRchDQod0Vp5VQ
Dying, dead marine wildlife paint dark, morbid picture of Gulf Coast following oil spill
BY Matthew Lysiak In Grand Isle, La. and Helen Kennedy DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS
Originally Published:Wednesday, June 2nd 2010, 12:52 AMUpdated: Wednesday, June 2nd 2010, 5:44 PM
Here's what President Obama didn't see when he visited the Gulf Coast: a dead dolphin rotting in the shore weeds.
"When we found this dolphin it was filled with oil. Oil was just pouring out of it. It was the saddest darn thing to look at," said a BP contract worker who took the Daily News on a surreptitious tour of the wildlife disaster unfolding in Louisiana.
His motive: simple outrage.
"There is a lot of coverup for BP. They specifically informed us that they don't want these pictures of the dead animals. They know the ocean will wipe away most of the evidence. It's important to me that people know the truth about what's going on here," the contractor said.
"The things I've seen: They just aren't right. All the life out here is just full of oil. I'm going to show you what BP never showed the President."
The day was 85 degrees, the blue sky almost white with sunshine, the air fresh with salt tang.
After checking that he was unobserved, he motored out to Queen Bess barrier island, known to the locals as Bird Island.
The grasses by the shore were littered with tarred marine life, some dead and others struggling under a thick coating of crude.
"When you see some of the things I've seen, it would make you sick," the contractor said. "No living creature should endure that kind of suffering."
Queen Bess Island was the first place where fledglings were born when the beloved, endangered Louisiana brown pelicans were reintroduced in the 1970s. Their population rebounded and was finally declared stabilized in 2002.
Now their future is once again in doubt. In what had been such an important hatchery, hundreds of pelicans - their white heads stained black - stood sentinel. They seemed slow and lethargic.
"Those pelicans are supposed to have white heads. The black is from the oil. Most of them won't survive," the contractor said.
"They keep trying to clean themselves. They try and they try, but they can't do it."
The contractor has been attempting to save birds and turtles.
"I saw a pelican under water with only its wing sticking out," he said. "I grabbed it and lifted it out of the water. It was just covered in oil. It was struggling so hard to survive. We did what we could for it.
"Nature is cruel, but what's happening here is crueler."
The uninhabited barrier islands are surrounded by yellow floating booms, also stained black, that are supposed to keep the oil out. It's not working.
"That grass was green a few weeks ago," the contractor said. "Now look. ... This whole island is destroyed. How do you write a check for something like this?"
He said he recently found five turtles drowning in oil.
"Three turtles were dead. Two were dying and not dead yet. They will be," he said.
As the boat headed back amid the choppy waves, a pod of dolphins showed up to swim with the vessel and guide it to land.
"They know they are in trouble. We are all in trouble," the contractor said.
BP's central role in the disaster cleanup has apparently given the company a lot of latitude in keeping the press away from beaches where the oil is thickest.
On Monday, a Daily News team was escorted away from a public beach on Elmer's Island bycops who said they were taking orders from BP.
BP spokesman Toby Odone denied the company is trying to hide the environmental damage; he noted BP has organized press visits to the spill zone and said BP cannot tell cops what to do.
The contractor for BP said the public needs to see the truth.
"BP is going to say the deaths of these animals wasn't oil-related," he said. "We know the truth. I hope these pictures get to the right people - to someone who can do something."

Aikiou Interactive Dog Bowl-Slow Feeder & Puzzle

We found the coolest dog bowl ever! It is the Aïkiou bowl- (pronounced I.Q.)
This is not just another dog bowl. It is a feeding system and a Puzzle toy all in one.
It is completely dishwasher safe.
When using as a feeding system- There are seven separate sections under the center rotating panel and four sliding doors on the outside. The Aïkiou is approximately 14 inches in length and 12 inches at the widest area.
You fill the compartments with food and he will use his muzzle and paws to turn the center wheel and open the sliding doors to access the food that is hidden inside. The Aïkiou is suitable for all size dogs and cats. For those of you with big dogs, it has a 3 1/2 cup capacity.
The system adds a brain stimulating component to feeding, slowing down the rate at which your dog ingests and thereby reducing digestion problems.
Dogs need mental stimulation and this keeps your dog busy at mealtimes and working to get his food.
We personally have a Labrador Retriever, and left to it, she would gulp down her food every time, as if it was her last meal. That is just not healthy for their digestion and your dog could end up with bloat, a life-threatening condition.
Dogs have a need to "hunt" for their food, as their ancestors have done for centuries. The Aïkiou satisfies the natural instinct by having your dog seek and find his food or treats. The Aïkiou is the ideal tool to meet some of your dog's basic needs to search for his food and mental stimulation- necessary for his overall happiness.
As a Puzzle toy, simply put treats inside the 4 sliding outside cups and inside the rotating center disk and have your dog seek and find the treats. Increase the level of difficulty by putting treats maybe in every other of the 7 compartments in the center and then in only a few of the sliding doors on the "feet" of the bowl.
The Aïkiou is available in blue or pink.

How to make kitty condos

Environment Enhancement for your cats---
In the wild, cats experience random events all the time. A street cat that walks down a street one day may find that he cannot do this the next day, and he accepts this as a normal course of events. But our indoor cats cannot experience this at all.
Setting up interesting environments for cats and playing certain music or videos will help simulate this spontaneity, keeping your cat entertained while you're away or calming it down if it's distressed.
Here are some of suggestions from Martha Stewart's January 11th show for top life-enhancement ideas for cats:
Stack a few cardboard boxes in your living room, changing the arrangement from day to day to simulate randomness for the cat.
These are so easy to make--Just take some boxes- square or rectangle and get a paper plate as a template. Trace around the plate onto the box and use a box cutter to make holes for your cats to enter the box. If the boxes are not taped shut, tape them down. You can find a big refrigerator box and make a different menagerie of boxes and sizes to make a custom and moveable kitty condo arrangement. If you really want to get decorative, cover the boxes with beautiful contact paper and then cut your openings.
Hang a birdfeeder outside your window. Watching for birds will become your cat's new favorite activity.
Play videos for your cat that bring the outdoors in, which is especially suitable for apartment-bound cats that can't see nature through the windows. Cat sitter DVDs are a great choice.
Find great interactive cat toys and Organic pet products for cats and dogs at http://www.mickeyspetsupplies.com/
Our family owned pet store caters to the needs of our customers with very personalized service and 100% customer satisfaction guarantee. Call 877-863-5431 to order
